Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) on Tuesday urged the Election Commission (EC) to be more professional, thorough and meticulous in carrying out the current re-delineation of electoral boundaries throughout the country. Its Secretary General, Datuk Radin Malleh, said the EC should adhere to the provisions and requirements provided for under Section 2 of Part 1 of the 13th Schedule to the Federal Constitution when re-delineating or revising the proposed recommendations in respect of both the Parliamentary and State constituencies.

According to Radin, who is Melalap Assemblyman, some of the localities and (or) the polling districts are not located or situated in the stated constituencies.

Citing an example, he said the polling district of Pangkalan was placed in the new constituency, namely, Sook when it should be in the other new constituency, Liawan, because it is located and situated within the Liawan constituency.

Likewise, the polling district of Luagan and Bayangan which are placed in the new Liawan constituency should be in the Bingkor constituency as they are located and situated there, whereas the polling district of Keningau town which is placed in the Bingkor constituency should be in the Liawan constituency as it is located and situated in that constituency.

To be exact, the polling district of Keningau town is situated between the polling districts of Liawan and Mesjid together with Limbawan, said Radin.

According to him, such discrepancies and shortcomings also occurred in other constituencies.

“To satisfy the EC, its officials should go to the ground to see for themselves so that they know the real situation,” said Radin.

He said that these must be rectified in the interest of the people and also the Government before the redrawn electoral boundaries are tabled in Parliament in March.
