Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) information chief Henrynus Amin said the ongoing public debate on the rotation of the Chief Ministers post should reflect the legitimate concern of the people at large.
Such concern should be relevant to the larger concern for political stability and economic survival, he said in a statement Saturday.
It is, therefore, very important for the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in Sabah to have a consensus on the matter to avoid the pitfalls of political uncertainties, he said.
He agreed with recent remarks by other public leaders that it was time to revive the five-year tenure for the Chief Minister instead of the current the two-year rotation system.
If the rotation system is maintained, then it should be based on a five-year term, he said, adding that it was time for the BN component parties to consider a common stand on the power-sharing formula.
Henrynus, who was Kinabalu MP, said there ought to be a new, equitable and more effective power-sharing formula to cope with the changing political circumstances in the State.
This has become more urgent given the upcoming general election at parliamentary and state levels.
It would be a tragic mistake to ignore such consideration or simply leave to the people to draw their own conclusion during election time, he said.
However, PBS was confident that the BN leadership at Federal and State levels is fully aware of the Sabah peoples sentiments and would act accordingly, he added.
