Kota Kinabalu: There should be no more excuses from local authorities in solving the perennial garbage problem following the proactive plan formulated by the Local Government and Housing Ministry.
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Supreme Council member, Johnny Mositun, said local authorities must take advantage of the relaxation of policies to effectively solve the problem of uncollected garbage in their respective districts.
Mositun commended Datuk Salleh Tun Said and his Ministry for coming up with the plan.
The local authorities are now allowed to use allocations to lease dump trucks or as down payment to purchase more than one truck, with the balance to be paid on installment basis.
We thank the Government, this is what people wantÖso that the garbage problem can be addressed once and for all, he said here Thursday.
Mositun was among those who had made the call for local authorities to use special allocations to acquire trucks through leasing so that more can be purchased.
On Wednesday, Salleh was quoted as saying that the State Government has allocated some RM5.8 million to the local authorities in 18 districts, especially to help address garbage woes.
