Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) on Tuesday demanded that PBRS Secretary-General Ellron Angin tender a public apology for hurting the feelings and insulting the intelligence of the people in Sabah.
Its Secretary-General, Datuk Radin Malleh, said Ellron owed it to the 213,640 citizens of Sabah who voted for the PBS in the March 1999 State election.
Ellron had said in a statement Monday that the BN candidates contesting in the predominantly non-Muslim Bumiputera areas lost in the last election because of the anti-Federal and racial sentiments propagated by the opposition party at that time.
I cannot believe that Ellron can make such an extreme accusation at PBS which is a multiracial party, said Radin.
He should not belittle and underestimate the intelligence and judgement of the people.
He said the patience, resilience and moderation practised by the PBS since its inception in 1985 until today had enabled it to face all challenges.
This proves that the party is not what other people like Ellron thinkÖin short, the overwhelming response and acceptance of the majority towards PBS is contrary to the perception of Ellron, he said.
Radin said PBRS should instead reflect on its miserable defeat during the last election, instead of blaming the PBS.
He said PBRS should also take note of the advice by Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman during the Kalimaran Festival recently that the people could not afford to have fanaticism and extremism in their midst.
