Kota Kinabalu: Sembulan Assemblyman Edward Yong Ooi Fah said the Government should continue taking drastic action against the presence of illegal immigrants in the State.
Noting that a good number of illegal immigrants are still seen roaming freely in the main urban areas, he said the security of the State and the safety of the people would continue to be threatened.
Yong hoped the relevant enforcement agencies, particularly the local authorities, would no longer tolerate their activities, including businesses, in the State, that might result in the revival of hardcore criminal elements.
He also noted that foreigners had been harassing motorists seeking parking spaces, forcing them to allow their cars to be washed or pay protection money to them for the safety of their cars, as in the case of jaga kereta boys.
Yong also attributed the negative attitude of foreigners and illegal immigrants to the massive accumulation of garbage in their dwelling areas, such as Sembulan, Putatan and Pulau Gaya.
We, locals, have been indulging in gotong-royong activities to clean up the mess and they gleefully dump their rubbish indiscriminately without any serious consideration to public health.
Such kind of practice may be common in their own countries, but we in Malaysia, Sabah in particular, are concerned about our health, Yong said.
