Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan said Malaysians should pride themselves on having a Prime Minister with a long-term vision for the rural people like Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad despite his retirement in a few months time.
According to him, Dr Mahathirs assurance to this effect reflects his determination to continue with the Governments rural poverty eradication efforts.
The Prime Minister said he would continue to place greater emphasis on development prospects in the rural areas, when asked by reporters during his recent visit to Sarawak.
Pairin, who is Keningau MP and Tambunan Assemblyman, expressed optimism that the rural areas would enjoy better infrastructures, facilities and social amenities under the current process of nation-building.
He recalled having urged the Prime Minister to help Sabahs rural areas to reach par level with those in other states, during a courtesy call by a PBS delegation in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 26, last year.
Pairin was also confident that the present political stability in the State would further help accelerate the implementation of development towards improving the living standard of rural folks.
