Tuaran: Sabah Director of Education Datuk Kamal D. E. Quadra announced on Monday that the Ministry of Education has approved the provision of 10 sets of computer notebook and LCD projector to each of the six technical secondary schools in the State.

They are SM Teknik Tawau, SM Teknik Sandakan, SM Teknik Lahad Datu, SM Teknik Keningau, SM Teknik Kudat and SM Teknik Likas.

He made the announcement after launching SM Teknik Tawau’s school documentation in the form of a magazine on Monday.

Kamal said the Ministry’s Secretary-General gave the approval during the latter’s recent visit to Sabah.

“These paraphernalia are to facilitate the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English in technical secondary schools. It is the responsibility of the Education Department to ensure that modern facilities are supplied to school computer labs to further improve the teaching-learning process,” he said.

The principals concerned were directed to collect the equipment from the Education Department’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Development Unit in Kota Kinabalu.

On hand to receive letters of endorsement from the Director were Mary Yap Kain Ching (Tawau), Tan Boon Kyee (Sandakan), Siti Aisa Hj Maidin (Keningau), Loh Kok Cheang (Kudat) and Peter Lai Kui Len (Likas).

The Principal of SM Teknik Lahad Datu was represented by his Senior Assistant Md Asri Alian. In response, Yap said the assistance rendered is most apt as SM Teknik Tawau (SMTT) has implemented the SMTT Technology Bestari Programme or Pro-Bestek 1999-2006.

“Our ‘Beyond Re-engineering SMTT’ Programme will begin next year (2004). We will witness more exciting activities taking place in the school.”

According to her, all teachers in the school keep abreast of education technology development in respect of teaching based on multimedia methodology “in line with the Education Ministry’s aspiration to produce a generation of educators who are computer literate through the INTEL Programme.”
