Passing motorists and villagers helped themselves to the free buffalo meat when nobody stepped forward to claim them.
The bus which was heading to the State Capital from the east coast, however, continued on its journey. Two buffaloes died instantly while a third was hit by a passing motorcycle ridden by a Shangri-La Rasa Ria Beach Resort staff. Four other buffaloes were also injured.
Justin Suman, 41, sustained a dislocated right shoulder and suffered minor bruises after being thrown off his bike following the impact. A passing motorist ferried him to the district hospital where he is currently warded.
Justin apparently did not notice the carcasses on the road while on his way towards Tuaran at 5.30am. The incident was believed to have occurred about an hour earlier.
The two carcasses and injured animal were lying on the road while the rest were in the drain.
A nearby resident, Fazil Haji Inden, 37, claimed hearing a loud thud at around that time and saw the bus speed off and the animals scattered on the road. District Police Chief, DSP Haji Suhaimi Wiro, and traffic policemen were at the scene.
