THE trend by the State Federal Development Department in Sabah (JPPS) to pass on projects to "outsiders" came under scrutiny by three back benchers.According to Klias Assemblyman Datuk Lajim Hj. Ukin, JPPS should be given the role of monitoring the project awards, instead of implementing."Many projects implemented by JPPS in various district in Sabah were given to outsiders," said Lajim while urging that such projects should be channeled through the respective assemblyman.ADVERTISEMENT "We are of course proud of the presence of the JPPS in Sabah because the State Government then was under Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) which left the Barisan Nasional (BN) in 1990."However, the situation has now changed. Political stability is strong and there is an understanding between the component parties in Sabah...so, I think it's time that the role of the JPPS is reviewed.".Lajim said it was no longer necessary for the JPPS to become an implementing agency and that the allocation given by the Federal Government should be channelled directly to the relevant ministries or departments.Citing the Beaufort parliamentary constituency, he said of the RM4.9 million rural allocations for the area, the JPPS only used RM2.1m this year.ADVERTISEMENT "This meant that the remaining RM2.8m was returned to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
