Kota Kinabalu: Newly-appointed Sabah Umno Wanita Chief, Datuk Armani Hj Mahiruddin, 47, views her leadership role as a heavy responsibility and trust, and not a privilege.She wants the movement to act as a catalyst in realising the State's Halatuju (direction) for development agenda under the stewardship of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
"In tandem with the State's vision and mission, we will give emphasis to economic development through active participation in agriculture, tourism and manufacturing sectors," she said when contacted, Friday.
According to Armani, Umno Wanita Chief, Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, has directed all State Wanita chiefs to go down to the ground to meet the masses.
"In the Sabah context, we are required to make visits to the grassroots to identify their problems and needs," she said, adding that priority would also be given to membership growth.
Armani is an elected member of Umno Wanita Executive Committee.
She was Vice-Head of Sabah Umno Wanita for four years until this year. She is also a member of the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB).
Meanwhile, Umno Sepanggar Wanita Chief, Jainab Datuk Hj Ahmad, welcomed the appointment of Datuk Armani Hj Mahiruddin as the new Sabah Umno Wanita Chief (See report on Page 2).
"Mutual support is vital for continued growth of the party's women movement. I would be happy to work with the new team for further progress," she said.
