Tawau: Police detained a 23-year-old local who allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old Indonesian at Taman Hilltop, here, on Sunday.Acting District Police Chief, Supt. Mohamad Deraman, said police received a report by the Indonesian who lived at Kampung Sentosa, near here, who claimed he was assaulted with wood by a group of people at 8.30pm.
Before the incident, the Indonesian was informed by his son that the latter had been attacked by a group of people, prompting him and his son to return to the scene but only to be set upon by the group.
Meanwhile, police arrested a 36-year-old local for alleged theft at SRK Bandar teachers' quarters last Saturday.
Police received a report the same day from an Education Department staff who claimed his house at the quarters at Utara Road had been broken into.
The staff had left his house to attend a ceremony at 10am and when he returned about one hour later, he saw a man holding a knife in his house.
The thief fled in his car upon realising the house owner had returned.
The suspect, arrested at Mile 32, Apas Road, led police to recover a birth certificate, a savings book and a handphone, as well as a knife, which he had discarded near the Tawau River.
