Tawau: Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman is confident the new 85-acre Tawau Teacher Training College costing RM86 million will serve as an excellent centre of learning towards improving the standard of education in the country.Serving as an impressive landmark in east coast, the college had supplemented the aspiration of the State Government for more higher learning institutions to be set up in this region, thereby giving local youths a wide choice in their pursuit for educational excellence.
Musa said this Tuesday while receiving the transfer of students and staff from the Sandakan Teachers' College which has closed down. His speech was delivered by Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Tawfiq Haji Abu Bakar Titingan.
The function was officiated by Education Director-General Tan SriAbdul Rafie Mahat.
The Chief Minister was also confident that the new college would provide a better avenue for all to improve the quality of education, not only in Sabah but nationwide.
This would make Sabah's east coast a new centre of learning and an agent for the growth of future higher learning institutions in the area, he said.
While the shift to Tawau may stem sad memories of the Sandakan College for the students, they would inevitably be thrilled at the prospect of enhancing their scope of the profession under a more conducive environment, he added.
He thanked the Federal Government, particularly the Ministry of Education, for having considered the east coast of Sabah for such an ambitious programme.
Musa also congratulated Abdul Rafie on his appointment as Education Service Commission Chairman on Jan. 8, next year, after he retires on Dec. 31.
