Kota Kinabalu: The four-team tournament involving top teams from Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei scheduled from Jan 18-22 will be a part of the Sabah FA's bid to help tsunami victims.

"Apart from an opportunity to watch the Rhinos play, the tournament will also be in aid for the tsunami fund. Therefore, we want the fans to come and help," said Safa President, Datuk Anifah Aman on Friday.

Initially, Indonesian league champions, Semarang FC and Singapore's Tampines Rovers FC have agreed to play but were forced to withdraw due to other commitments.

Safa however, have confirmed the participation of another Indonesian club from Sulawesi - Persibum - while the Bruneian team has long since agreed to play. Persibum would be fielding their strongest squad, which among others comprises of two Argentines, a Chilean and a Nigerian striker.

The Nigerian who goes by the name Tibidi Alexis played for Sabah during the 1998 season but was replaced by Gabonese striker, Sapho Lassy after only six months with the Rhinos due to a knee injury.

As for the team replacing Tampines Rovers, Safa is still waiting for another club also from Singapore to confirm their participation. Tickets for the tournament are set at RM10 while a donation box would be placed at the entrance of the stadium for the fans to put in their contributions.

Anifah said that part of the proceeds from ticket sales would be sourced to the tsunami funds.

He added that Safa had to foot a massive bill to bring in the teams and they would appreciate if the fans could come and help Safa.
