Published on: Thursday, January 20, 2005

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah senior team will face-off with stars of yesteryears in a friendly match at the Penampang Stadium on Monday (Jan 24) aimed at raising funds for the Malaysian Tsunami Disaster Fund.

The match's deputy organising chairman Peter Rajah said the game between the Rhinos and the Penampang All Stars promises to be one worth watching, as both sides have been making efforts to get into match shape.

"While we hope to raise funds for the Tsunami Disaster Fund in this friendly, its also a chance for the Rhinos to introduce to the fans their line-up for the 2005 Super League season," Peter said in a statement yesterday (Wednesday).

"The Penampang All Stars are also ready to whip up a challenge for the State team. They have played three friendlies to warm up, winning twice and drawing once."

The All Stars, coached by Latip Olen, is a combination of veteran players who took part in the just concluded Mojuntin Shield Football Tournament and younger but experienced footballers such as Musa Hendrek, Herman Limus, Florian Hiew, Presley Anthony, Ryan Peter, Roslan Wasli, Sylvster Sindeh, Zuraindey Jumai, Suminie Dimis and Lutter Gambar.

Sabah on the other hand will be fresh out of a four-way friendly coming into Monday's charity match. Coach Jose Garrido is expected to send on the majority of his players, including the Brazilian quartet of Leosmar 'Marzinho' Nasciamento, Andrezinho Esposito, Eduardo 'Edu' Pinceli and Julio Cesar Ramires or Juninho.

Aside from the main event, organisers will also be kicking 10 footballs into the grandstand as a lucky draw for the spectators while a Sabah FA Football Academy trainee will put on a show on ball-handling.

The match will kick-off at 4.30pm. Ticket sales started yesterday (Wednesday) and will continue until match day.
