Tawau: More concerted efforts will be made towards getting tourists and visitors to stop by the town here, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat.He pointed out that Tawau has several places of tourist attraction surrounding the township, as most visitors apparently were not interested in staying in the town area.

Chong, who is Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, noted that most tourists would by-pass the Tawau town area on their way to Semporna, upon landing at the Tawau airport.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing the installation ceremony of the Tawau Federation of Chinese Associations, here, on Monday.

Semporna might have several surrounding islands that appeal to the foreign tourists, but Tawau also has its own unique attractions of tourist interest, such as Tawau Hill Park and Cocoa Museum, coupled with the fact that the town area is a haven for those with a penchant for seafood.
