Penampang: Seven tattooed Timorese belonging to a gang called "Kanssas" (Kumpulan Anak Nakal Satu Saat Akan Sedar) were hauled in by police in connection with a recent armed robbery at Beverly Hills.

District Police Chief, DSP Mohd Azhar Hamin, said the group robbed a student of his mobile phone at knifepoint at the residential area last week.

The boy was returning home from a video arcade when the suspects, aged between 17 and 23, approached him.

"The gang took the boy's phone after finding he did not carry any cash on him," he said.

Acting on a tip-off, police managed to locate one of the suspects, believed to be the ringleader, several days later.

Azhar said the based on information given by the suspect, police conducted a three-hour operation at Kampung Luyang Baru that started at 2am and arrested the other gang members. All the suspects had valid passports.

Efforts are under way to locate three other gang members, who police believe are also Timorese.

"All of them have tattoos on their bodies," he said.
