Mobile dog registration exercise in Foh Sang extended

Published on: Sunday, February 26, 2006

Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall's (KKCH) Vector and Animal Control Unit has agreed to extend its mobile dog registration exercise in the vicinity of Foh Sang shop houses, for another round next Saturday.

It would be held at the same spot - near the Sabah Progressive Party's (SAPP) mobile service booth - from 8.30am to noon.

The extension follows a request by the Luyang People Development Leader (PKR) office, in view of an overwhelming response and request from the public.

City Hall's Chief Environmental Health Officer, Danny Kok, said:

"We were really caught by surprise by the overwhelming response from dog owners. All the 500 registration forms which we brought with us were filled up. We even went to the nearby stationery shop to print some additional copies for the applicants," he said at the second registration exercise, Saturday.

The Vector and Animal Unit has registered close to 2,000 dogs since the exercise began a fortnight ago.

The one in Gaya Street will be on till today (Sunday) from 8.30am to noon. "We wish to thank Luyang Assemblywoman Melanie Chia for her kind support and assistance in making the mobile dog registration exercise successful one.

"Such appreciation also goes to our Vector and Animal Control Unit's officers and personnel for sacrificing their weekend to conduct the registration exercise," he said.

He reminded that the Unit would proceed to conduct a door-to-door enforcement of its "Registration of Dog and Control Bylaws 1963" next month, under which a dog owner could be fined RM100 for every unregistered dog.

Under the bylaws, all dogs aged 6 months and above must be registered with City Hall.
