Kota Kinabalu: The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) in Kuala Lumpur is compiling wrongly entered data in MyKads to bring to the attention of the Government the seriousness of the issue in which the religion of holders have been wrongly entered.
If not immediately rectified, it could have implications on the next-of-kin, burial and inheritances upon death.
In line with this, Executive Officer of the Catholic Pastoral Centre, Neil Mah, advised members of the Christian Faith to check the contents of their MyKad using the Astro decoder.
"Slot your MyKad into the second slot next to your Astro smart card, select Channel 800 and follow the procedure listed," he said.
Those affected may inform or SMS to Mah their name as in the IC, IC number and religion error as stated in their respective MyKads, the latest by May 21.
Based on reports received by him so far, he said over 20 church goers of Stella Maris in Tanjung Aru had their religion stated as Buddhist, three as Hindu and 40 others as MT (which stands for Maklumat Tiada or without information).
According to Mah, other responses were "Card Not Supported" when checked using the Astro decoder and "Kad Tidak Sah" when examined with a MyKad reader.
On a report that the MyKads of 60 parishioners in Kota Marudu had the "Kad Tidak Sah" response, when checked five times using a MyKad reader, he said there were two possibilities.
"Either something is wrong with the chip or the MyKad reader is defective."
"A few cases of the race wrongly recorded in the MyKad were also reported to us," he added.
