Upgrade Tambunan hospital: Pairin

Published on: Sunday, November 05, 2006

Tambunan: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan wants the status of the District Hospital to be upgraded into a specialist hospital.

Presenting the Cabin Portal for the hospital's haemodialysis unit here Saturday, Pairin, who is also Rural Development Minister, said the new status would bring about changes, especially additional staff and better medical equipment.

He said the district hospital has inadequate equipment and personnel to cope with the increasing population in the district where many patients had to be referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

He also hoped the proposed hostel for families and patients from remote areas in the district could be built as soon as possible.

On the Cabin Portal, Pairin said apart from enhancing the quality of nefrology treatment, it is also useful due to its mobility.
