Beaufort: The Sabah Youth Council has expressed full support for the Government's decision to eradicate once and for all the problem of illegal immigrants and squatter colonies.
Its president Datuk Lajim Haji Ukin said if these are the causes of social ills and alarming increase in crime index, then the Government should not compromise on the security of the State and the people in general.
He said this after officiating at the presentation of scholarship awards by Yayasan Sabah, organised by the Beaufort Regional Education Office here, on Wednesday.
Lajim, who is Klias Assemblyman, was responding to a recent statement by Chief Minister Datuk Musa Haji Aman that the State Government would take deterrent action pertaining to the increased presence of illegal immigrants and squatter colonies harbouring criminal elements.
He hoped that concrete action could be initiated to weed out the illegal immigrants and criminal elements as soon as possible before the situation could get out of control.
He was also optimistic that the deportation of illegal immigrants would not affect the building industry in the State, as many migrant workers were found to have the proper documents.
"Our main worry is those who do not bother to have the necessary documents while entering the country, thereby causing various kinds of social problems and criminal activities," he said.
