Costly tee-off for golfer

Kota Kinabalu: A golfer lost about RM28,000 in belongings, including a Rolex watch, which he left in his buggy while he went to tee-off at a course here last month.The 51-year-old local Chinese parked his buggy about 20 feet from the tee and returned about five minutes later, only to find his watch, Nokia mobile phone and RM2,600 cash and other items missing, about 9.15pm on Dec 8.

City Police Chief, ACP Ku Chin Wah, said based on a tip-off the city Crime Prevention Unit (CPJ) led by Chief Insp Cheong Soon Yew raided a house at Kg Tanjung Aru Lama, here, and arrested a 20-year-old Bajau Filipino, about 3.30am on Thursday.

"The suspect told police that he had sold the Rolex watch to a married couple staying nearby. Sure enough, when the CPJ raided the said house later, they found the watch along with a Citizen watch, pocket PC and two mobile phones, all believed to be stolen items," he said.

He said a 47-year-old local Bajau man and two Bajau Filipino women, aged 35 and 44, were picked up from the house.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Suluk Filipino was arrested on Friday in connection with an armed robbery at Sembulan, here, the previous day.

Ku said the suspect made off with a mobile phone and RM100 from a 22-year-old local Bajau, using a seven-inch knife to threaten the latter.

The CPJ detained the paperless suspect at Kg Sembulan Lama and recovered two phones, three cameras, a wristwatch and an amplifier, he said.

In another development, police are looking for two women and a man in connection with a robbery involving a 20-year-old local at Lorong Sentosa in Kg Air, here on Wednesday.

The man was heading to work in Sinsuran at about 7.30am when two men pulled him to a back alley near a bank where two women were waiting.

They robbed him of his Nokia 6630 worth more than RM1,000, among others.

"We detained a 24-year-old Kadazan woman the same day and seized a mobile phone from her. Efforts are underway to trace the others," Ku said.
