Tshung Tsin creates history

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School made history when it organised an inter-city web-conferencing public speaking and debate competition with a Hong Kong school, Tuesday.With Yahoo Messenger as its web host, the competition in English involved six public speakers and six debaters from Tshung Tsin and Lee Kau Yan Memorial School Hong Kong.Tshung Tsin grabbed all three categories in the public speaking competition while the Hong Kong school won the debate.ADVERTISEMENT Senior One students of Tshung Tsin, Janice Ong, Averyl Bachi and Francesca Chee Ying Yih won the Best Contents and Organisation, Best Use of Language and Best Delivery categories, respectively.Lee Kau Yan Memorial won the debate with a score of 246 points against Tshung Tsin with a score of 231 points.Tshung Tsin Principal, Tsen Kui On, in his speech, said the significance of the competition was not to decide who was the winner. "By making the event come true, both schools were winners."He later told reporters that in April, about 90 students from Hong Kong, including from Lee Kau Yan Memorial, will visit the school here.ADVERTISEMENT "Tshung Tsin and Lee Kau Yan Memorial will also hold a class on web-conferencing to forge mutual cooperation and understanding," he said.Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, who delivered the prizes, commended Tshung Tsin for the effort.

He said the debate topic, "Smoking in Public Places Should be Banned" is a fitting topic. Tshung Tsin was the opposition in the debate."I hope such competitions will be carried out again in future and foster good relationship between both schools," he said.
