Kota Kinabalu: City Police Chief ACP Ku Chin Wah said police have framed the investigations involving the death of a suspected thief by electrocution at Inanam last week under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
The body of Makmor Mohd Ali, 28, a Bugis, was found in the backyard of a sawmill at Kg Lembaga Padi, last Monday.
It was believed he was electrocuted after he accidentally touched the barbed wires that were connected to a power source, which the owner installed to prevent thieves from stealing wood from his factory.
"We were thinking of discussing the possible violations committed by the owner with the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) but as of now we have classified investigations under that Section," Ku noted.
He said the police would submit the results to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) after completing their investigations.
The 54-year-old sawmill owner said he decided to install the barbed wires and connect them to a power source after numerous police reports he lodged previously failed to stop the thefts.
He said he had lost wood items worth thousands of ringgit in previous thefts, adding he already lost about RM5,000 from the four break-ins the week before alone.
He said he put up the wires about 25 feet from the zinc fences surrounding the factory's backyard compound.
