Tawau: A baby boy was found abandoned at Km 56, off Berantian-Kalabakan, near here, Monday.
Acting District Police Chief, Supt Ramli Ali Mat, said a 49-year-old Bugis plantation worker who was about to take a dip in a nearby river heard a baby crying about 5pm.
He said the naked baby, with ants all over his body, was found lying on the ground under an oil palm tree, adding a sarong and towel were found some five feet away.
The man told his niece to clean the baby before he sent the infant to a clinic at Felda Umas for a check-up, said Ramli, adding the baby, believed born two days ago, was later referred to the district hospital.
The police are still trying to locate the parents of the baby who suffered many insect bites.
Ramli urged those with information to come forward and help in the investigations, adding the public can contact Insp Hafiz at the district police station.
