Kota Kinabalu: A psychology seminar-cum-workshop, organised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with the Association of Psychological and Educational Counsellors of Asia-Pacific (APECA), will be held here on Feb 1-2.

Organising committee chairperson Prof. Dr Rosnah Ismail said the main objective is to hold a forum to discuss issues in relation to educational psychology and counselling. It is also for professionals in the Asia-Pacific region to interact and strengthen network ties.

"This two-day workshop is unique and different from other seminars or conferences held because it will focus on the skills training workshop in psychology and counselling which will be presented by experts in the region - the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, India and Malaysia."

'Helping Someone Gay: A Non-Traditional Approach' is one of the workshop highlights during which the presenter will share and discuss his professional involvement and experiences in helping lesbians and gay men. He will also share information about lesbian and gay psychology, issues and its history throughout his presentation.

The workshop on 'Holistic Stress Management' will include self-awareness activities for the participants to assess their stress level and proneness. Participants will go through experiential activities that will give an opportunity to work on their stressors during the workshop.

Another workshop is 'Dramatherapy' that uses various forms of creative expression such as movement/dance, voice, music, play, art and role/play.

"It is an adjunct tool in counselling. This workshop provides participants with skills on drama therapy that can be useful in the counselling programme especially for children, adolescents, adults and elderly population."
