Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Youth Chief Au Kam Wah hailed Umno Youth Chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein's decision not to defend his post at the Umno elections in December. In a statement Friday, Au said he looked forward to someone who is visionary, sensitive, moderate and humble to lead Umno Youth in future, so as to redeem its much tarnished image. "Umno Youth is essentially the cradle for the nation's leaders hence we do not wish to see the movement again produce leaders who may seem extreme in their behaviour."

He noted that Hishammuddin's repeated keris-raising antics had inevitably depicted Umno, which is the backbone of Barisan Nasional (BN) as arrogant and which has no respect for other communities in the country. This was coupled with the fact that Hishammuddin is the Education Minister who is supposed to promote such virtues as humility, compassion and tolerance.
Au who is also Elopura Assemblyman hoped the change in Umno Youth leadership would somehow end the infamous chapter in the history of Umno and BN as a whole.

He also hoped BN could learn from its poor performance in the last general elections and to be brave in making the necessary changes to win back the support it had lost.
