Seller nabbed having 300 turtle eggs

Sandakan: A man selling protected turtle eggs was caught red handed trying to make a deal with a potential buyer at Jalan Pryer, here, Sunday.The suspect in his 20s was tailed by the Sandakan Municipal Council enforcement unit personnel who immediately nabbed him when seeing him making the "O" sign as a gesture to a passing motorist at about 9.15am.The enforcement personnel also managed to capture the suspect's action on camera who was later handed to the police for further investigation.

Some 300 turtle eggs were found hidden inside an illegal partition below the staircase of block 16 Jalan Pryer during the operation against the illegal turtle eggs sellers over the past two days.Selling of turtle eggs activities along the busy street intensified recently when the price jumped from RM1 to RM1.70 per egg.The SMC enforcement team led by President Yeo Boon Hai had torn down several illegal staircases partitions that were turned into secret compartments for contrabands as well as the turtle eggs.Those found selling or in possession of turtle eggs are liable to be a fine of not exceeding RM50,000 on conviction.

Yeo in supervising the cleaning-up exercise of the refuse chutes and a drain full of rubbish due to the habit of throwing improperly packed rubbish into the chutes in Old Slipway here Sunday cautioned that flats residents should take heed of the advise or the situation would happen again.
