Putra Jaya: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Friday no Barisan Nasional (BN) Member of Parliament would leave the coalition by Sept 16 to join the opposition in setting up a new Government.
"I am sure (the Government of) Sept 16 will not happen. Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is banking on our party members to leave us but our people will not desert us," the Prime Minister said.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Adviser and Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had repeatedly said that several BN Members of Parliament would join the opposition to enable PR to form the Federal Government by Sept 16.
"We will not give them the opportunity to set up government on Sept 16.
No," said Abdullah at a news conference after launching the Business Licensing Electronic Support System (Bless) at the Prime Minister's Department, here.
He said the opposition would not be able to set up government if it was depending solely on the crossover of BN Members of Parliament to the opposition to make it happen.
Abdullah said it would be more appropriate if the focus was turned towards efforts to boost the nation's development.
"The Government focuses on work and does not delve into something that may happen. The focus is on work...to elevate the country, step up productivity and effectiveness, and much more," he said.
The Prime Minister also said he had had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin to inform the King of all developments.
"I conveyed what was taking place. I also said the emphasis was on getting business to run as usual. We have done everything to enhance the effectiveness of the administration in its dealings with the people.
"The voters have sounded the warning on what they are unhappy about but they have also given adequate support for the (BN) formation of the Government. We deliver what we have promised. His Majesty is happy with what we are doing," he said.
On the announced study trip abroad by members of the BN Back Benchers Club (BNBBC) from Sept 7 to 15, Abdullah said it was unnecessary to link the programme with the intended formation of the PR government on Sept 16.
"If they want to go, just let them go. What is there to associate it with September. They are not people who want to cross over from the BN," he said.
