PETALING JAYA: Former Federal Territory Gerakan Chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong, 61, announced Saturday that he had joined Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
He said it was a hard decision but he accepted the "wishes of the people who wanted a multi-racial party".
"I believe that race-based parties are no longer relevant," he told reporters at the PKR headquarters here.
He said he had submitted his resignation letter to Gerakan Secretary-General Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye on Friday.
Gerakan suspended his membership in May when he accepted a position in the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government.
Dr Tan was once the Land and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister from 1999 to 2004 and Segambut Member of Parliament from 1995 to 2004. - Bernama
