Larian Ria 2009 next month

Kota Kinabalu: The State Youth and Sports Department is organising its Larian Ria 2009, which would be held at Taman Tun Fuad in Bukit Padang on July 12, this year.

The event, which is sponsored by Ararat Sports & Souvenirs Sdn Bhd (title sponsor), will begin at 7.30am and is aimed at creating active, healthy and united Sabah citizens.

The Department's Assistant Director, Stephen Andreas said the run is adapting a 'Touch & Go' concept where there would be no registration, no entry fees, no age limit and no gender categories.

He also announced that participants stand to win some attractive lucky draw prizes.

"The concept of the Larian Ria is 'Touch & Go', where there would be zero hassle for participants to join the event. They don't event have to register and it is free for everyone to join, there is no age limit.

"This event is aimed at promoting unity among Sabahans and to encourage them to lead healthy and active lifestyles so we are inviting everyone to join us.

"We will also be giving away some attractive lucky draw prizes such as a laptop, and electrical appliances like refrigerator, 21" TV, fans, rice cookers and other prizes too such as a mountain bike, hand phone hampers, pocket bike and more," said Andreas.

He told reporters this when announcing the event at the Departments office in Putatan near here, Thursday.

Also present were State Youth and Sports Department Sports Officer-cum-Event Director, P. Ponniah, Event Secretary, Faizam Ibrahim, the Department's Assistant Director (Rakan Muda) Nor Fahizan and Ararat Sports & Souvenirs Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Ben Wong, among Those who complete the 4.4km Run (two laps) will be given certificates of participation.

The Department has printed some 20,000 info cards to publicise the event and is expecting a good turn out from the public this year.

Last year's edition attracted some 2,842 participants and this year its organisers are expecting 3,000 people to take part.

Youth and Sports Federal Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek is expected to officiate the event.
