MANADO: The 4th BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Conference here started Wednesday with several projects being shortlisted to facilitate transportation between the countries involved.
Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, who led the Malaysian delegation, said among the projects were the construction of Roll On Roll Off (ro-ro) ramp in Sandakan port for the BIMP-EAGA ferry to Zamboanga, Philippines.
It is also to construct a floating ramp in Kudat and bridge for border crossing in Entikong, Sarawak to connect Kuching and Pontianak in Kalimantan.
"We reached an agreement for Brunei to build a bridge at Sungai Paduran to replace the ferry to Limbang which had been a source of bottleneck between Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei," he said.
He said the ro-ro ferry from Brunei to Menumbok in Sabah would also be implemented in the nearest future to enable Brunei motorists bring their vehicles to Sabah via an alternative method.
The BIMP-EAGA transportation cooperation, he said saw the support and commitment not only from the participating nations but also international agencies such as Asian Development Bank and German Technical Cooperation.
