Kota Kinabalu: The Human Resource Department (JPSM) here will include beauty therapy or spa and reflexology as two new subjects in its beautician and hairdressing programme by next year.
Its Director Billy Yumbod said this is to value-add to trainees' skills in light of the high demand for both skills, particularly in hair and beauty salons as well as reflexology centres.
"Starting with the first intake in 2010, trainees taking up the beautician and hairdressing programme at our Training Skills and Commerce Institute (ILTP) at Wisma Muis here will learn both fields.
"We will begin advertising the programme this October and admission is open to all who are interested to acquire such skills," he said, after presenting certificates to 33 beautician and hairdressing programme trainees, Tuesday.
Also present were ILTP Deputy Director Sebastian Ingkim and ILTP Kota Kinabalu campus manager Tianinun Iping.
In his speech, he said the 33 trainees who completed the six-month programme were fortunate as they are able to master two skills in one programme compared to trainees at ILTP Pantai Manis, Papar.
"The trainees of ILTP Pantai Manis, Papar are taking the beautician and hairdressing courses for a duration of one year each while the trainees at ILTP here are taking both courses over six months."
Billy said the ILTP Kota Kinabalu operating at Wisma Muis here was set up in 2006 and has trained 172 trainees out of 494 applicants, so far, in the beautician and hairdressing programme.
