Balanced growth with no community sidelined: CM
Sandakan: The State Government adopts holistic development to ensure the people, regardless of race, enjoyed the benefits and the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) is an example of the Government's commitment in bringing this about. "The SDC provides the State Government an opportunity to bring development to all districts as it is a holistic plan.

"With balanced development, no one in Sabah will be sidelined," said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. "The people in the east coast, west coast and interior regions of the State would benefit from the implementation of several projects under the SDC."

He was speaking at the conferment of the Tagajoh Gayoh (Paramount Leader) on him by the Orang Sungai (river people) at Dewan Sri Libaran in Kampung Sungai Kayu Mile 7, near here, Saturday.

The Tagajoh Gayoh title was in recognition of his contribution to the economy, religion and national development.

Musa also advised Bumiputeras in Sabah to gain more entrepreneurialship knowledge to avoid being left behind.

He said having formal, planned and systematic entrepreneurial knowledge is necessary in creating a quality society that help in the development of the State.

According to him, Bumiputeras in Sabah are still lagging behind compared to other races in the country, especially in the entrepreneurial arena.

In this respect, he said the Bumiputera community needs to open their minds to be more positive and responsive to changes and new things that can be applied rationally.

He said the Bumiputeras need to shed the attitude of wanting everything in life easy. Instead, they have to stand up to become a progressive, competitive and innovative race so that at the same time they can contribute to the State's economic prosperity.

"The attitude of choosing and alibaba (subletting) contracts rather than doing it themselves can be easy money but the practice is unhealthy and only causes a loss in the long run," he said.

Meanwhile, he reminded the Orang Sungai community on the importance of preserving the originality of the ethnic group's culture from being polluted by foreign culture.

Musa said even though change is necessary in attaining progress, it was appropriate for culture to be preserved in safeguarding the identity of the people.

The 'Tagajoh Gayoh' ceremony was organised by the Sabah Association of Bangsa Sungai (Sabas). Also present was his wife, Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin.

Among Bangsa Sungai leaders attending the function were Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Bolkiah Ismail, Sabah Education Department Director, Datuk Normah Gagoh, State Assemblyman for Gum-Gum, Datuk Zakaria Edris (President of Sabas), State Assemblyman for Sukau, Saddi Abdul Rahman, State Assemblyman for Sugut, Datuk Surady Kayong and Assemblyman for Tungku, Haji Suhaili Said as well former Assistant Minister, Datuk Aklee Haji Abbas.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Datuk Michael Asang and State Assemblyman for Elopura, Au Kam Wah.
