Services fully restored Sunday
Kota Kinabalu: Some 40 per cent of repairs to the main Telekom Malaysia ª Bhd exchange at Mile 2 in Sandakan has been completed, with telecommunication services restored to the Police Department and General Hospital.Services are expected to be fully restored on Sunday. A spokesman said several banks, including Maybank, CIMB and Bank Rakyat, had also regained these services allowing savings account holders to have transactions processed there.

"However, the public are likely to find that the response time for transactions have slowed down due to the line congestion," he said.

Technicians had been working round-the-clock to attend to the damage caused by the fire which broke out at the exchange on Monday.

On how long it would take for telephone and internet services to be fully restored in Sandakan, he said it was impossible "to give an exact or tentative date". "We are in the process of dealing with the fallout from the fire and hope to restore services to all subscribers there as soon as possible."

In the meantime, he said TM had mobilised its emergency and disaster rooms in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu to field enquiries from the public about these problems.

"In Sandakan, the staff manning these room can be reached at (089) 622423, 622134 and 246111, whereas in KK they can be reached at (088) 264803 and 264837," he said. Alternatively, he said the public could also contact TM's-100-Customer Assistance or e-mail the firm at [email protected].

"Given we are in the last week of the month, many of us need to access our salaries to meet the payment deadlines on our loans and bills," said one Daily Express reader who was unable to carry out any transactions.
