Tabs 1 inching closer to U-12 title

Published on: Tuesday, August 04, 2009

Kota Kinabalu: Tabs 1 moved closer to clinching the Kota Kinabalu Under-12 Soccer League title after defeating Tuaran DPT 2 -1 at Likas Sports Complex here, Saturday.

The win tightened their grip on the league's top spot with only three games left to spare. The league is scheduled to end by Sept 29.

With their ascendancy in the league so far, Tabs' main rivals SK Likas and the other teams look increasingly unable to halt the league leaders' stroll towards the championship title.

Coached by Matasan Ahmad, the team only need at least a draw from the three remaining fixtures to officially claim the title.

Playing with only eight players in the first half against Tuaran DPT, Tabs 1 still managed to take the lead in the first half through Debbson Michael.

The match was level at 1-1 entering the break.

Tabs 1 bagged the full points courtesy of Mohd. Ruzaimi Rusli's winner in the second half when the team played with their first eleven.

Meanwhile in another game, Tabs 2 were awarded a win after their opponents, Densit failed to field enough players for their game.

However, both teams played a friendly match later with Densit playing with three players loaned from Tabs.

In the friendly game, Tabs 2 narrowly won 1-0 with their defender, Mohd. Syafiq Mohd Nor scoring the winner in the second half.

Tabs 2 were also listed as one of the eight teams that qualified to play in the quarterfinal stage of the league.
