They handed out anti-drug leaflets and brochures to the residents and passing motorists in the effort led by Sabah Pemadam Chief, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
The event, themed "1Malaysian Healthy Without Drugs", was a new approach taken by Pemadam to diversify its programmes in spreading the message to the public.
Azizah, who is also Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister, said the people of Sembulan should be thankful for the outreach programme that was organised in the area.
"As the problems of drugs are problems for society as a whole regardless of religion, race, culture and status, we hope organising such programmes would trigger a change in the mindset of the society," she said.
Drug abuse, she said, has been a huge problem in the country, where much pain has been caused by it, affecting parents, friends, loved ones and even the leaders of the Government.
"What is more painful is the fact that those involved in drugs are youths and teenagers as young as 16 who are supposed to be the nation's valuable assets," she said.
The outreach programme, which was jointly organised by Pemadam, City Hall and Daily Express, also offered lucky draws with prizes such as electrical goods, hampers and cash, sponsored by various organisation in the city.
