However, a 3-0 defeat (5-11, 6-11, 2-11) suffered by Gary Chong against Tan Ming Zuan and a 3-1 defeat (9-11, 15-13, 7-11, 9-11) from Lim Yi Heng against Gan and 3-0 (6-11, 8-11, 9-11) against Loh, held back Sabah's chances of making it to the finals.

In joint third with Sabah was Negeri Sembilan who lost to Sarawak in the other semi-final.

The bronze from the Girls U-10 team event was won when Sabah met Johor in the semi-final but lost 3-1.

Tian Yeck Cheng was Sabah's only winner in this event where she defeated Huan Kit Koo 3-1 (4-11, 12-10, 7-11, 7-11), while defeats suffered by Connie Leong and Lim Chiew Yee failed to give Sabah the chance to play in the final.
