Sabah confident of a strong showing

Kota Kinabalu: The State Women's hockey team will be banking on their top players to lead them to victory at the 3rd Borneo Games in Brunei, which will be held from November 29 to December 6, this year.

Team manager, Sarimah Rahia said that the Sate will have a strong chance for a good outing at the games considering the players they have in their squad which comprise of national and elite players.

"Rosmah Asrin and Juliani Mohamad Din will no doubt be influential in our quest to win the championship, but we also have some elite players from the Bandar Penawar Sports School in Johor that will add strength to our squad.

"We haven't really set a target for this championship but we will try to win the gold," said Sarimah, who incidentally will also be playing in the squad.

She told Express Sports this when met at the Likas Sports Complex hockey field here, Tuesday.

The Bandar Penawar players are Sinar Hayati binti Saimin, Noor Hidayah binti Limpu, Herni binti Japlee and Surizan binti Awang Noh.

Also joining them in the squad are ex-Banadar Penawar players, Felecia Joumin and Norain binti Abin.

The other players are Nor Fatin Azlin binti Salehuddin, Petronella Douny, Nurul Suhada binti Mohamad, Noremaliza Andan, Azura bin Yacob, Surina binti Suriansyah (GK) and Imelda Chin Mei Yun (GK).

Susan Jolison @Susan Muda will also join the team as an official.

Meanwhile, Sabah Men's team, which will also be featured in the Borneo Games, is also aiming for victory. Team coach, Dedi Saputra Mohd Rasyid said that the team's target is to win gold.

"We have been training for two weeks for this meet and we feel up-beat and will try our best to win.

We have a good squad, which will include some players that competed in the Razak Cup," he said.

They team list includes Asrin Sidi (team official), Bryan Midir, Maslin bin Jamal, Shahry bin Ahmadin, Eslebester Esar, Muis bin Mursalam, Seth Jafree, Mohammad Aliff Othman, Freedee Jaulis, Mohd Khairul bin Roslin, Andarian Masidol, Madius Mechael and Hasrol Zool.

The Razak Cup players are Herick bin Ahmad Syam, Eldon Eddie Lemeric, Dick Chenny Waili and Jayson Gasiyun. Both teams are scheduled to depart for Brunei on Friday.

They will attend a ceremony to receive the state flag from Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin at the Ministry's office, here, this afternoon.
