Pitas to have own civil defence office soon

Kudat: Rural district of Pitas, here, would soon have its own civil defence operation office. Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Bolkiah Ismail said the setting up of the office there is a start to face any eventuality of natural disaster in the district.

Pitas, he said is known as a flood disaster zone and that the availability of the office there would help to overcome the flood problem and reduce burden of the people as well.

He said this when officiating at the closing of the 57th Civil Defence Day at Kudat Sports Complex. Six districts had taken part in the event namely Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Kota Marudu, Kota Kinabalu, Beaufort and Labuan.

Various competitions such as fire fighting, rescue, paramedic and explorace were held including futsal and badminton. Bolkiah, who is also Pitas Assemblyman, urged members of the civil defence to be always ready. However, he said civil defence actually starts from home.
