Judicial staff complete course

Kota Kinabalu: Forty-seven judiciary and Attorney-General's Chambers officers completed the Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Law organised by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) in collaboration with the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation of Malaysia (BiotechCorp) here.

Among them were 20 from Sabah and Sarawak and 27 from Peninsular Malaysia as well as 10 officers from the Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumerism and Cooperatives.

Presenting the certificate was Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum at Le Meredien on Saturday.

The course consisting of three modules namely, Copyright Law, Trademark Law and Patent Law was to equip the officers of the IP Court with the necessary knowledge on intellectual property law.

The Intellectual Property (IP) Court of Malaysia was established in July 2007 to provide for efficient case disposal involving intellectual property.

The IP Court network is made up of six High Courts of Malaya (Intellectual Property) and High Court of Borneo (Intellectual Property) and 15 Sessions Court with criminal jurisdiction known as with "Sessions Court (Intellectual Property)" for each state including Putrajaya.

The first batch, comprising 34 officers completed the programme last year.
