Worker killed after being rammed by lorry

Published on: Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old worker of a wire netting company in Inanam, near here, was killed after being rammed by a six-tonne lorry, Monday.

It was learnt that Mazni Sani was with a colleague when the incident occurred at about 8am.

His colleague said prior to the incident, they were inspecting a two-metre iron on a forklift when a nearby lorry reversed and rammed Mazni.

"I was sitting at the driver's seat when Mazni asked to check whether the iron was straight. He was standing in front of me holding the iron.

We were busy checking and did not realise the lorry was reversing.

"It happened so fast. It hit him (Mazni) and he was squeezed between the lorry and the forklift," he told Daily Express.

Staff of the company alerted the police and Mazni, who had been working for the company for eight years, was rushed to hospital but died due to serious injuries.

His 27-year-old wife, Ainah Amt, a saloon worker, rushed to the scene after being informed of it by the company.

She said her husband did not show any unusual behaviour before the incident.

"He was normal just like any other day. Yesterday (Sunday), he brought the children for breakfast and at noon we went shopping in KK Plaza and had dinner together.

"This morning (Monday), he woke up early and sent the children to his mother's house while I went to work. I cannot believe this had happened," she said, trying to hold back tears.

Mazni leaves behind two sons, aged one and five. Inspector Hanif was investigating at the scene.
