Aid, allocation for Kota Marudu flood victims

Published on: Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Kota Marudu: Flood victims of Kg Marudu Laut here were given rice and other basic necessities by Sabah Wanita Umno's "Squad Sayang" on Sunday.

They were also given an allocation by the Umno division here to rebuild two houses damaged by floods.

The squad also visited a 50-year-old physically-challenged woman, Rohaya Karnawi, who has five children.

The programme was led by Sabah Wanita Umno Chief, Datuk Armani Mahiruddin, who said they would do their best to help the flood victims and the woman.

"One of our main priorities this year is to get close to the grassroots and help those in need," she said.

Meanwhile, Umno chief here, Wetrom Bahanda, said one of the causes of the flooding here was due to a company which did some digging at some nearby rivers, causing corrosion and siltation.

In this respect, Armani urged the relevant authorities like the Department of Environment to monitor the dug-up areas to prevent floods from recurring.
