No official discussion on seats yet: Yong

Published on: Friday, February 05, 2010

THERE is still no formal discussion on the distribution of seats between the opposition parties, said SAPP President Yong.

He said he was not at the recent dinner with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders including Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and that nothing had been formalised.

He reiterated that SAPP only made known its intention to contest in the coming General Election without giving any figure to then Sabah PKR liaison chief, Azmin Ali, last June.

In November, he said SAPP's announcement that it aimed to contest in 40 state seats in Sabah received tremendous response from the people.

"It further reinforced our plan to contest in 40 state seats," said Yong at the SAPP headquarters in Bornion, Thursday.

He was asked to comment on speculations that SAPP and PKR had met recently to discuss seat allocations for opposition parties in Sabah.

Yong maintained that SAPP would be going for 40 state seats in order to gain a majority in the State Assembly and "achieve its goal of giving back Sabah its political autonomy as outlined in the SAPP 8-Point Declaration".

As for Parliament, he said it would be proportionate to the 40 State seats, which should work out to 14 to 16 of the 26 Parliamentary seats in Sabah, including Labuan.

SAPP wants to work out with the other opposition parties a one-on-one scenario to ensure the BN faces just one opposition party in every constituency in the coming election, he added.
