Kota Kinabalu: The use of pump boats needs to be banned if the Government is serious in tackling the rampant smuggling problem.

In fact, the use of pump boats to smuggle good is seen as one of the reasons why marine police is facing problems in curbing this activity.

City Police Marine Commanding Officer, ASP Mohammad Aris Jambul, said the pump boat used is a fast mode of water transportation and difficult to overcome.

"This is one of the problems faced by marine police as most culprits use pump boat to carry out their illegal activities in waters," he said at a dialogue with Likas assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan in Inanam, Thursday.

"We hope that the Government can ban the use of pump boats in the State," he said.

Meanwhile, Teck Chan said he and and his staff would work together with the police in reducing the criminal activities for the betterment of the future.
