Sabah gunning for nothing less than a victory

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah will be aiming for nothing less than a victory from their President's Cup encounter with Negeri Sembilan at the Tawau Stadium, tonight (Thursday).

State Reserve Team Coach, Abdul Rahman Mad Nor said that he would be going all out to ensure a second straight home victory for Sabah and would be fielding his best squad to get the job done.

He wants the same squad that played against Johor in their opening campaign match in February to strut their stuff and maintain their home winning form.

"We did a great job against Johor the last time we played at home and I think we can do the same tomorrow night if we play our cards correctly.

"Fielding the best squad for this match will no doubt the best option for our objective. We want the three points and we want to maintain a winning form at home," said Abdul Rahman.

He told Express Sports this when contacted Wednesday.

Abdul Rahman will be launching a full-on attack against Negeri Sembilan, deploying the same 4-4-2 formation that proved flawless against Johor.

He plans to create chances from playing counter-attack, banking on the speed from his young strikers to unlock the opponent's defence.

And with the return of team captain, Arfiansah Abdul Jaafar, who missed out on the away match against Selangor, which unfortunately ended in a 4-1 defeat, Abdul Rahman is confident his team will be ready for the challenge.

"I think we stand a great chance of coming away with all three points.

We have the advantage of playing at home and the return of our captain, Arfiansah, will undoubtedly give a huge confidence boost to the other players," he said.

The President's Cup campaign, which kicked-off on February 25, has only just begun.

Sabah enjoyed a great start when they beat Johor 3-0 on opening day but suffered a big defeat at the hands of Selangor the following week.

Negeri on the other hand started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against a Kelantan home side before travelling away to Johor for a 2-0 victory.

From their two games, Sabah is currently fifth in the table behind Terengganu PBDKT T-Team, while Negeri is in third place behind leaders Melaka and second place Selangor.

Abdul Rahman urged local supporters to come out in numbers to help sing the team to victory.
