Goal fest proof Sabah a quality side

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Head Coach and Manager, Gary Phillips views Sabah's astounding 6-0 victory over Melaka in Monday's Premier League match as an indication of the quality there is in the squad.

"I always said there was enough quality in the squad to take on any opponent in the league and I always said that it was just a matter of time before someone was gonna get a beating from us," he said.

The 6-0 winning performance has boosted Gary's confidence in being able to lead the team to a third place finish in the Premier League standings.

He did however, indicate that the way things unfold in the next four to five weeks would be a huge factor to achieving that objective.

"I'm certainly confident that we can finish in at least sixth place but to say that we can finish in the top four or anything beyond that depends a lot on the how things turn out over the next few weeks.

"I've spoken to the management about getting the team some competitive matches during the break. It would be great if we could go to Singapore or Thailand or Vietnam or Indonesia or even KL as long as we get to play some good games," said Gary.

A string of tough matches await Sabah when the season resumes on April 16 where they will host will host Pos Malaysia FC at the Likas Stadium.

The team will then travel away to meet Police on April 19 and later return to host the same opponent on April 23, before travelling again to Kuala Lumpur to face Felda United FC on May 3.

A home clash against Selangor PKNS FC will be the order on May 7 and a week later will see the team going head to head against Harimau Muda at the Hang Tuah Stadium in Melaka.

"It's important for us to maintain our form during the break. We will have a lot of tough games to play when we return."
