Kota Kinabalu: Kolej Yayasan Sabah's aspiration of becoming a university college is fast becoming a reality with the approval for a new building to herald the upgrade.
The Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees recently approved the facility - a milestone in the Yayasan Sabah Group's efforts to promote opportunities in education - to be named Yayasan Sabah Universiti College (YSUC).
Wholly-owned by the Yayasan Sabah Group, the private college is constantly improving on programmes and developing new ones to position itself as one of the colleges of choice in Malaysia.
It aspires to become a university college by 2013.
Over the years, the college has gone through challenges and obstacles to become a leading tertiary education and vocational provider in Sabah while still retaining its commitment towards providing education and training for all.
Recently, Kolej Yayasan Sabah and Petronas signed a MoU hailing a beneficial collaboration between the two organisations - Petronas fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility and the college providing vocational training in line with the industry and Sabah's manpower needs.
The MoU was meant for the set up of a welding workshop and training programme at Kolej Yayasan Sabah and since its inception, 128 students have enrolled in the programme.
The vision is to train and supply skilled workers to support the growth of Sabah's developing industries, especially in the oil and gas industry such as the Kimanis pipeline.
The college aims to train at least 300 workers in the next five years.
Kolej Yayasan Sabah has also announced its participation in the creative content industry with the opening of its Animation House in Sembulan.
Meanwhile, the college would be having its open day on April 3 and 4.
