4 MoU signed during Bimp-Eaga meet

Kota Kinabalu: Four Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed during the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) meeting in Brunei recently.

The MoU pertaining to upgrading the air and sea transportation integration including its competency as well as public and goods transportation border movement.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri who is leading the Malaysian delegation to the two days meeting, which began on July 27, said the agreements were listed in the Bimp-Eaga's transportation ministers' joint statement, which will become the framework of its implementation.

Abdul Rahim said the meeting was important to see the implementation of the Bimp-Eaga's roadmap, to study its progress as well as to settle various delayed issues.

The ministerial meeting chaired by Brunei's Transport Minister Pehin Dato Abdullah Bakar was also participated by Asian Development Bank, German Technical Cooperation and Bimp-Eaga Business Council.

Abdul Rahim also said among the issues discussed were considering potential cooperation for air routes and flight services between member countries including air services between Kota Kinabalu and Balikpapan, Indonesia, by Indonesian airline, Wings.
