Kota Kinabalu: All sports association registered under the Sabah Sports Council are urged to actively pursue their development objectives and continue implementing activities for the betterment of sports in the State.Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin said he was sad to note the number of sports associations that have not been actively organising activities in the interest of their own development.

"There are still several associations that have remained dormant by not organising any activities to try and further develop their respective sports disciplinesÉthey have not submitted programme reports.

Some among them have not even sent their list of scheduled programmes for this year.

"This is rather appalling. The Ministry has, through the Sabah Sports Council, accorded funds for each and every association for them to implement programmes and conduct activities such as tournaments to try and further develop their organisations and their sport," said Pang.

He said according to records for 2010, there are still associations that have not utilised their funding, let alone claim them from the NSC.

"What we want is for these associations is for them to become more active.

We want to see activities.

"We don't want to see the people behind these organisations to just occupy their positions without regard for the responsibilities that come with their roles, which must be fulfilled and not ignored".

Pang said this when receiving a courtesy call from the Sabah Netball Association (Sabana) at his office at Wisma Muis here, Monday.

Sabana President, Chendramata Sinteh invited Pang to the Sabana Charity and Funds Raising Dinner Ceremony 2011, which would be held at the Shangrila's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa on March 6.

"The Ministry shows support for activities and programmes such as this.

It shows they have initiative to try and independently develop their association without relying entirely on the Ministry's assistance," said Pang.

Meanwhile, Chendramata said the Charity and Fund Raising Dinner Ceremony would start at 7pm.

"We hope to raise as much funds to enable us to provide significant contribution to charity as well as for us to implement more programmes to further develop our association," she said.

The ceremony will provide entertainment such as appearances by Adam, Abu Bakar Ela and Esther Clement.

Tickets are available and priced at RM1,000, RM2,000, RM3,000 and RM5,000 for tables of 10 seats.

There are also individual tickets which are available for RM100, RM200, RM300 and RM500.
