The 53-year-old man and his 23-year-old partner were caught in a budget hotel by Sabah Islamic Affairs Department (Jheains) enforcement officers, around 11pm. Also in the operation were police and Rela.
The couple said the woman's parents did not approve of their relationship, but that they were planning to get married. The man, a widower with four children, had been in a relationship with his partner since a year ago.
Jheains enforcement officers knocked on the door for almost an hour before the man opened it. He was fully dressed while his partner was lying on the bed.
Operations chief Mohd Noor Kasah said the woman was also fully dressed and the man admitted they were not married. They were brought to Jheains headquarters for further action.
A 50-year-old woman and her 21-year-old lover were also caught for khalwat in the room of a workers quarters in Putatan.
The woman who works in a restaurant claimed she was only lodging for food in her kakak angkat's (adopted sister's) house. Enforcement officers however caught her sleeping together with her 21-year-old partner.
The woman was wearing a sarong while her lover was on the bed fully dressed when enforcement officers raided their room.
They were brought to Putatan Police Station to be investigated under Section 27 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Act 1997.
